A broken water main in Ashland has lead the city's public works department to put out a boil advisory for the residents of three streets. The main broke Wednesday evening on East Broadway, but the advisory is for people living on Oak Street, Tandy Street and Johnson Avenue.
It is a precautionary boil order. Residents should boil water for three minutes before using it for drinking or cooking. Also, do not use ice from an automatic ice maker. You can disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces by putting them in clean tap water with one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
Public works needs to have two clean water samples before they lift the order. That will take 48 hours, at the minimum.
