Lincoln University has joined the national vigil for a Florida high school student killed by a neighborhood watchman.

George Zimmerman says he felt threatened during a confrontation with Trayvon Martin in Orlando in February.

T
he confrontation resulted in Zimmerman shooting and killing the teenager.

Authorities have not charged Zimmerman.

Martin's family gains nationwide support for their claims that their son was the victim of racial profiling.

People at LU today said they wanted to bring awareness not only to this case, but to racial injustices that happen everyday.

"There are a million other Trayvon Martins out there from our past, as well as these days. We'd like to just bring awareness to say, this situation is not the only situation, but it can be a starting point for all of us in the Jefferson City community to say 'hey let's make a stand; let's come against this'," said Brianna Brown, one of the organizers of the vigil for Trayvon at Lincoln University.

While Zimmerman has claimed self-defense in the death of Trayvon Martin, many in the community want him arrested and tried.
