The heat wave continues for Mid-Missouri as our streak of above normal temperatures continues into the weekend and possibly into next week. The entire viewing area, along most of the Midwest, is under an Excessive Heat Warning until 7 PM Saturday.
Temperatures will consistently be near or above 100 for the remainder of the week. The combination of the hot temperatures and high humidity values will lead to dangerous heat indices ranging from 105-115.
Conditions such as these can cause sunstroke, muscle cramps, heat exhaustion or even be fatal. Health officials advise people to use caution when outside in the heat. Drink plenty of fluids and keep an eye on the elderly, kids and pets.
The heat warnings come as the Kansas City Health Department is investigating another possible heat-related death.
The death of a 57-year-old woman is the 10th possible heat death in the Kansas City metro area. Investigators have not confirmed that heat directly caused any of the deaths.
