VIENNA, MO -- The Maries County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man they believe was selling drugs directly across the street from a school playground.

Deputies and members of the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group started investigating Patrick Stefanski, 51, in September 2011. Undercover agents bought several hundred dollars worth of Oxycontin from Stefanski, who lives across the street from the Vienna Elementary School playground.

Friday evening officers went to his house in the 100 block of Highway 42 East and arrested Stefanski. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of distributing a controlled substance near a school. He may face more charges in the future.

He’s in the Maries County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

While at Stefanski’s house, officers also arrested Kathleen Stefanski, 50, for possessing drugs and drug items.

The Maries County Sheriff’s Office investigated two Oxycontin-related overdose deaths in 2011.
