To prevent low-population centers from losing their postal service, the U.S. Postal Service has agreed to reducing hours to keep them open.

EUGENE, MO -- People in Eugene gathered at the Christian Church to hear the fate of their post office Wednesday afternoon. One hundred and ninty eight people responded to a survey saying they would rather see hours cut than lose their post office all together.

Cindy Bolles, manager of postal operations for the Central Missouri region, said Eugene isn't the only place seeing the cost-cutting measures.

In the next two years, hours will likely change at 13,000 offices across the country.

"The post office realized that, you know, rural communities, they still need avenues to mail and do business," Bolles said. "That rural America, not everyone is on the internet and does business that way."

In Eugene, the post office hours would tentatively be 7 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Robert Neeley and his wife Teresa do about $20,000 worth of business on e-Bay each year and said the change in hours would slow down their shipping.

"We take orders up until 12 or 1 o'clock in the afternoon and a lot of our customers, that's what they're waiting on, and they want the same day delivery," Neely said.

Neely says they may have to take their business somewhere else, such as UPS, to keep their customers happy.
