JEFFERSON CITY -- Tax season is here, and there's an important change to the filing process that you should be aware of.

This year, you cannot file your taxes online until Wednesday, January 30.

Certified Public Accountant Bert Doerhoff said this may cause a backlog for the IRS.

"I certainly hope we don't have the mass chaos of taking down the IRS' internet site," Doerhoof said. "Because the returns they're used to getting over a 45-day time period, they're probably going to get in two or three days time."

He said this new filing date probably won't impact those filing for simple returns, but those with more complex taxes may see a delay in receiving their returns.
