A Jefferson City High School graduate won this year’s Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

Ameir Smith won best song in the Contemporary Christian/Gospel Category for his song “Come and See”.

Smith is a 1995 Jefferson City High School graduate and a worship leader at Columbia’s Latter House Kingdom Ministries.  Smith is spreading the word of God through his award winning music.

On November 15 at the Historic Fonda Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, Smith picked up his first award for best song at the 2012 Hollywood Music in Media Awards.  Smith said his song “Come and See” is all about the impossible possible dream.

Smith said, “With God, nothing is impossible.  If there has been something stirred up within you where you feel like it was in there from birth.  It’s that kind of thing.  It’s a real compelling and a really drawing song.”

Smith said he owes his success to his partner and producer Brandon Collins.  Collins said Smith’s award is a sign that they are on the right track.

Collins said, “I like working with Ameir because he has found strategies on how to capture his material or whenever he is in the moment or when inspiration strikes.”

Smith and his group The Front Line released a music video two years ago.  It was recorded in Jefferson City and called “Day of Reformation”.  That song won them a nomination at the HMMA’s last year.

Smith has started a new project where he’s trying to start a new record label here in Mid-Missouri.  Smith said the Ameir Smith Project is a place where local musicians can take their music to the next level with his help.
