An escaped prisoner from Michigan is being held at the Cooper County Detention Center on outstanding warrants from Michigan while awaiting more here in Mid-Missouri.
Ross Culver, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was arrested yesterday morning after a high speed chase on I-70.
The Cooper County Sheriff's department received a tip about a possible stolen vehicle heading westbound on I-70. Deputies then observed a silver Ford SUV with Michigan license plates and upon checking the plates confirmed that the car was stolen.
Officers attempted to pull the car over, at which time Culver initiated a chase with speeds approaching 100 miles per hour.
A Cooper County Deputy and a Highway Patrol Trooper were ultimately able to corner Culver when he turned off the road into a corn field.
An investigation revealed that Culver had escaped from a county jail in Kalamazoo and that he has warrants for Escape and Failure to Appear on a Burglary Charge in Michigan.
Cooper County Deputies are submitting paperwork for the pursuit-related charges today.
