(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is expected to seek more spending on health care and education when he outlines his new budget proposal.
Nixon is to present a budget Monday to lawmakers as part of his annual State of the State address. The Democratic governor already has revealed parts of his plan.
Nixon wants lawmakers to expand Medicaid eligibility for low-income adults, as allowed under President Barack Obama's health care law. His budget is likely to assume more than $46 million of savings and new tax revenues as a result of a Medicaid expansion.
But Republican lawmakers have been hesitant to embrace either the expanded program or the projected increase in revenues.
Nixon also is likely to recommend increased funding for early childhood programs and college scholarships.
