Organization preparing for storm
The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter is prepared to send six volunteers to Florida to help out if Tropical Storm Isaac makes landfall.
Teams of two will drive the chapter’s two emergency response vehicles to Orlando.
Volunteers from Moniteau and Cole counties will be driving the vehicle based in Jefferson City while volunteers from Montgomery and Audrain Counties will take the Mexico-based vehicle.
A volunteer from Callaway County is deploying in disaster mental health and an Osage County volunteer is assigned to logistics.
Those volunteers are scheduled to be helping out there for at least two weeks.
With the threat of what’s not Tropical Storm Isaac, the Red Cross is preparing to open dozens of shelters across Florida, and moving hundreds of trained disaster workers into the state.
The Red Cross said they have 22 emergency response vehicles already in the Sunshine State and 28 more are expected to be there before the storm hits.
The Red Cross is also mobilizing five truckloads of disaster supplies to send to Florida and disaster warehouses in Georgia and Mississippi are ready to ship emergency supplies if necessary.
