It's been a hot and dry past couple of weeks, and area farmers are finding themselves in a pickle.
The lack of rainfall coupled with below normal relative humidity has put a lot of stress on crops, and, in turn, has shortened the food supply for livestock.
Officials with the USDA say the problem is widespread.
"It's affecting not just Missouri, but the whole Midwest,”said Bob Garino with the USDA's statistics division. “Iowa, parts of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, parts of Arkansas are all being affected, so it's not just localized to us."
Right now, the Missouri boot heel is experiencing the brunt of the heat, and meteorologists predict that the rest of this week will stay hot and dry in Mid-Missouri.
