Mid-Missouri saw a round of winter weather this morning.
Snow started falling early morning, and a blanket of snow had fallen by sunrise in most parts of the area and that caused some trouble on the road for drivers.
One car slid off the road on Highway 54 westbound near Holt's Summit, causing traffic to bottleneck to one lane for a short time. Another car slid into a ditch along 54 east around the same time.
Most roads inside Jefferson City limits were clearer, with drivers reporting just wet conditions on the main roads.
MoDOT crews were out prepping the roads before the bulk of the snowfall around 5 a.m. this morning.
Many schools throughout the area were closed today, but Jefferson City Public schools decided to stay open long enough for an early dismissal.
School spokesman David Luther says hey stayed open mainly because their buses were already in route, with no problems moving in the snow. After talking with other school districts and looking at forecasts, they decided to dismiss school early.
