Man arrested in Columbia knife assault

COLUMBIA, MO. -- A man was attacked in the parking lot of the Days Inn Motel in the 1900 block of 1-70 Drive Southwest around 1:45 a.m. today.

The victim, a 31-year-old white male, was stabbed several times by Zackery Simmons, 21. The victim was transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle with non-life threatening injuries. The knife used in the assault was recovered by Columbia police while following a search warrant of his motel room.

Police arrested Simmons for first degree assault and armed criminal action. Bond will be set at a later date.
