JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Two local women coordinated an event for women across Mid-Missouri; it's the Women's Official Weekend Expo in Jefferson City.

Lindsey Forck and Alicia Arnett, both native Mid-Missourians, have been planning the WOW Expo for a year.

"We have over 60 vendors giving out free food samples, wine tasting, tons of retail shopping...we have stage entertainment," Arnett said.

"We needed to bring something to Jeff City for the women. We need to help promote them, help grow them, and just boost the economy a little bit. At the same time we want to give back to the community," Forck said.

A portion of the proceeds will go to single mother Mary Kramer and her five children. One of those children has DiGeorge Syndrome, a syndrome that causes immune system inefficiency.

Both women were pleased with the turnout for the first day of the expo.

"I am flabbergasted. I love it, I think Jeff City rocks, I think these vendors are going to get a lot out of it and I think Jeff City is going to get a lot out of this," Forck said.

"We've had attendees that are just like 'I want you to do this every year.' They're so excited that we're giving them the opportunity to spend a women's day out and do something that they can really enjoy with their friends and relax and just be women," Arnett said.

The WOW Expo is being held at the Truman Hotel in Jefferson City and tickets are $5 at the door. It will continue Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Forck and Arnett hope to make the expo an annual event.
