OSAGE BEACH -- Some police officers are spending their Friday on top of a gas station in Osage Beach.

The officers are taking part in the event "Cops on Top”, which is the kick-off for the Missouri Polar Plunge at the Lake of the Ozarks. The annual Polar Plunge benefits the Special Olympics.

Officers will be on the roof of the Hy-vee gas station in Osage Beach for 12 hours raising money.

The “Cops on Top” event raised $3,900 last year, and officers are hoping to beat last year's amount. They reminded people that all of the proceeds go to help the more than 16,000 athletes who participate in year-round sporting events.

The Polar Plunge at the Lake of the Ozarks is on February 23.

KRCG 13's Zach Paul will be taking the plunge into the icy water (click here to help him fundraise!), Meghan Lane will judge the costume contest and Jessica Troike (you can help her fundraise, too!) will run in the Polar Strut that morning.
