COLUMBIA -- A Columbia man was arrested after police say he beat and sexually assaulted his ex-girlfriend and endangered a child.

A woman told Columbia police her ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old David Cain, came to her home Saturday night to see their child and refused to leave.

The woman said Cain tried to sexually assault her and said when she tried to leave, he held her against her will.

Cain continued to throw the woman around her apartment throughout the night. He broke the land line and her cell phone so she couldn't call anyone for help.

Police said Cain punched the woman in the face and threw hot chocolate on her.

Eventually, Cain fell asleep and the victim was able to get out of the apartment and called police.

Officers arrested Cain at the apartment for second-degree domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child, felonious restraint and sexual abuse.
