The New Bloomfield, Central Callaway and Holts Summit fire departments battled a trailer fire in New Bloomfield Tuesday afternoon.

The property, owned by Jefferson City High School football coach Ron Cole, burst into flames at about 1 p.m.

Cole had not been living on the property at the time, but had been letting a friend, Marsha Sullens, stay there with her daughter.

Sullens said she went out to a gas station for a short period of time and when she came back the home was on fire.

No one was home at the time and no one was injured. Sullens' dog was chained up, but managed to break the chain and escape unharmed.

Officials are unsure what caused the fire, but Sullens claimed that she was having trouble with a heater.

The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter is assisting Sullens by providing resources to purchase food, clothing and shoes, as well as a two-night stay at a local motel.
