You may remember back to September 2010, when the Pin Oak Lodge dining hall at Lake of the Ozarks State Park was struck by lightning and burned to the ground.

Well, reconstruction efforts for a new lodge are continuing with the warmer weather this spring, and it's getting a helping hand from local college students.

S
tudents at the State Fair Community College campus in Osage Beach spend every weekday from eight to five working on different parts of building that new lodge.

Their instructors say it couldn't be done without them.

"They're hands-on. They've supplied all the labor involved in this. They've had instruction from local and area professionals," said State Fair Community College instructor.

The rebuilding project was started last year when the department of economic development announced that it approved a $1.5 million block grant.

The original lodge was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which was a part of Franklin Delanor Roosevelt's “New deal” depression-era economic policy.
