The district hopes to sell it's current 30 acre campus to Linn State Technical College and Lincoln University.
Officials say they would like to find a 100 acre site somewhere around Jefferson City to build the new $70 million high school.
The new facility will be configured like a college campus with different academies for fine arts, and athletics, etc.
People want to know where the new facility will be built. School spokesman, David Luther said, "Our goal was to find 80 to 150 acres within Jefferson City proper, or directly adjacent to the district boundaries, surprisingly we've actually come across about 12 properties that fit that description".
Officials say the reason they want to build a new campus instead of remodeling the current is so they can have everything in one place.
Right now, they have athletic fields spread out all over town.
The district said if voters approve the ballot initiative they hope to have on next April's ballot, the school could open to students in 2016.
Update, April, 24, 2012: 9:50 p.m
Superintendent Brian Mitchell announced Tuesday afternoon that Jefferson City Public School officials are in discussion with Lincoln University and Linn State Techincal College to develop a higher education corridor in the Lafayette Street/Stadium Boulevard area.
The plan would include selling Jefferson City High School, Adkins Stadium and Nichols Career Center to Lincoln University and Linn State.
Jefferson City Public Schools hope to build a new high school on about 100 acres of land. That plan is contingent on both an April 2013 bond issue and the current high school property being sold and repurposed.
School officials say the plan is still in the early stages.
