JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – As you may know, the plans for the new Jefferson City High School were unveiled Monday, after the Jefferson City School District purchased 115 acres of land on Mission Drive near Highway 179.
Plans for the new high include more college campus-oriented feel, which will go along with the district's push to offer a more "academy-like" curriculum, which will give students a specialized course plan, based upon the area they plan to study in college.
Some critics have mentioned that the price of the land, at $27,000 an acre, is especially steep for that particular area.
However, some local realtors like Terry Moore with Gordon Real Estate in Jefferson City say that seems about right.
"There is a high likelihood that with more medical facilities being built, with more commercial buildings going in, that the price of land in the area will increase," said Moore.
The district also plans to sell off the old Adkins stadium, and build a brand new sports facility on the new land.
The total cost of the land was $3.1 million.
