OSAGE BEACH, Mo. -- On Black Friday, for many chain stores, it was all about the bottom line.

But Saturday, at Lake of the Ozarks, for a few mom & pop stores, it was all about making customers smile.

"Very busy for the weekend. Lot of high traffic. Nonstop like a revolving door," said Brenda Kay.

Brenda Kay with Anighyas Treasures at the Premium Outlet Shopping Center in Osage Beach says business is good, but Saturday is especially important to her business and other smaller shops in the area.”

It's Small Business Saturday, but that still means big deals for some of the hottest holiday items, say Sherie and Myron Blackwell.

"Bacon, chocolate-dipped bacon," said Sherie Blackwell.

Sherie and Myron Blackwell own and run Rocky Mountain Fudge company, also located in the Premium Outlets, and they say they're glad to have the extra awareness, but they're just taking it one day at a time.

"We're lucky to survive Black Friday,” said Myron Blackwell. "That's the first place you start, is just trying to make enough product. We make about 60%"of our product right here. It's pure craziness trying to make that much fudge."

David Bird, the owner of Osage River Popcorn, says that's typical of people who live at the lake and all over Missouri.

"Especially in an area like Lake of the Ozarks, where we've got a lot of the chains coming in," said Bird. "It's important for people to support people with small businesses."

He says that's because while people like the door-busting deals, they really come out during their holiday to help out a fellow neighbor.
