JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- The director of the Missouri's labor department has been appointed to a new position as an administrative judge for workers' compensation cases.

Gov. Jay Nixon's office said Monday that Larry Rebman will serve as a workers' compensation judge in Kansas City, where he previously worked as an attorney concentrating in employment matters.

Rebman has led the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations since Nixon became governor in 2009. He also previously worked as an assistant state attorney general.

Nixon has selected Julie Gibson, of Jefferson City, to serve as the acting labor department director. Gibson currently is the director of the Division of Workforce Development in the state Department of Economic Development.
