COLE COUNTY -- The jury trial for a Cole County woman accused of shaking a baby is scheduled to begin Monday morning.

The trial comes about two and a half years after the alleged incident happened.

Shelly Richter is charged with two felony counts: endangering the welfare of a child and abuse of a child causing serious emotional injury.

In the fall of 2010, a grand jury charged the Taos woman with hitting and shaking 7-month-old Lane Schaeffer.

Richter said in August 2010 she dropped the baby on a concrete floor after tripping over another child at her home daycare.

However, doctors testified the baby's injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

This is the fourth time a judge has set a trial date for Richter.

Richter's trial is scheduled to be in front of Judge Pat Joyce.
