(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Senate has given first-round approval to a measure that would reinstate tax credits for donations to pregnancy centers, child crisis nurseries and food pantries.
Under the legislation, those and other benevolent tax credits included in the bill would expire at the end of 2019. Currently, those programs have either expired or will expire at the end of this year.
The bill would also renew the surviving spouse tax credit, which benefits families of slain public safety officials.
The Senate also approved an amendment that would eliminate a tax incentive for adopting special needs children from outside Missouri.
The measure is sponsored by Republican Sen. Bob Dixon of Springfield. It was approved Wednesday night but still needs one more affirmative vote in the Senate before moving to the House.
