A Holts Summit woman who admitted to using meth the day before authorities found her baby dead was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday afternoon.

Megan Ayres was convicted on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of meth possession.

Police arrested Ayres in June after authorities found the body of her 9-month-old son, Kyson Weathers, in her home.

Callaway County Prosecutor Chris Wilson said there was not enough evidence to charge Ayres with murder because autopsy results show Kyson died from natural causes.

“It’s certainly suspicious, given the circumstances in this case," Wilson said. "Suspicion in of itself is not enough to support a homicide charge.”

Ayers's boyfriend, Bryan Sartor, face similar charges. His trial is scheduled for next month.
