His family was moving, so firearms and ammunition were easily accessible. Luckily, the burglars ignored these.

A man barricaded himself in his bedroom and called 911 after several people broke into his home Thursday.

He called 911 at about 10 a.m. and said he was trying to hide from the burglars. Officers with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived at his home, located off Springfield Road just south of Waynesville, minutes later.

The man was unharmed, but shaken. He told authorities some property was taken, but said he felt fortunate because the easily accessible firearms and ammunition were untouched. The man and his family were in the process of moving.

While responding, a Waynesville patrolman saw a person matching a suspect description leaving the area. A follow-up investigation based on that sighting led to the detention and eventual arrest of one person.

The arrest, which coincided with the recovery of some stolen property, came after more information and evidence had been gathered. The suspect is now being held in the Pulaski County Jail, pending formal charges.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ronald Long said in a news release that this situation could have easily resulted in someone being seriously hurt.

"With the suspects discovering the owner was indeed home, along with a number of visible firearms in the home, this property crime could have easily resulted in serious injury to either the victim, or suspect," Long said. "I feel the victim was very fortunate in this situation."
