As Ameren continues to look for ways to reduce emissions in a cost-effective way, one of their plants ranks high on the polluter list.

Ameren Missouri's Labadie Energy Center, located along the Missouri River in Franklin County, ranked seventh in the nation on the Environmental Integrity Projects metal emissions list.

In a report released last week by the group, Labadie Energy Center emitted 795 pounds of mercury in 2011.

The report and rankings were based on the most recent data available from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The environmental group's list named the top 10 plants that emit the most mercury in the U.S.

The group says those 10 power plants accounted for 18 percent of mercury emissions nationwide in 2011.
