Fatal crash in Columbia Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Columbia police are are reporting a fatal crash that happened early Sunday morning .

Police say 27-year-old Benjamin Lieteau was driving west on St. Charles Road at Dorado Drive before 4 a.m., when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the left side of the road.

His car hit a creek embankment and turned on its side a short distance later before it came to a complete stop.

During the impact, Lieteau was partially ejected from the rear of the car. He was later pronounced dead by paramedics who arrived on scene.

Police say they believe that the driver was speeding right before the crash, and they also believe that he was under the influence of alcohol.

It was also discoverd Lieteau was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
