(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it is investigating a threat reported by Springfield police against Governor Jay Nixon.

Patrol Captain Tim Hull said Friday that authorities have "a person of interest" in a threat to harm the governor, but declined to go into further detail because the investigation is ongoing. Hull says the threat occurred Tuesday and was referred to the patrol Wednesday by the Springfield Police Department.

The Springfield News-Leader published a quote Friday from a city police report in which a man said another person came to his house and "wanted to hire him to kill the governor."

Nixon's office had no comment Friday about the threat.
