Governor Jay Nixon is in Afghanistan visiting Missourians deployed to the middle east.

His trip began in Washington when he met with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and visited wounded soldiers. He said he was inspired to see the treatment they were receiving to make as much a recovery as possible.

Nixon arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday and then moved on to Afghanistan Wednesday night.

Nixon wants to meet face-to-face with the troops to show his appreciation and said that he believes Missourians prove to be leaders in their duties.
