SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- The St. Louis school district is again the largest district in Missouri.

For the last two years, the Springfield district held the top spot. But The Springfield News-Leader reported Thursday that St. Louis is now the largest district, although only by 311 students.

The Missouri education department says the St. Louis' district has 25,187 students this academic year. Springfield recorded 24, 876 students.

Springfield is still the largest fully accredited district in Missouri. The St. Louis is only provisionally accredited.

More than 886,000 students attend 520 school districts and 38 charter systems in Missouri.
