The petition for a writ of habeus corpus was filed in Feb. 2011

UPDATE: Ferguson's father, Bill, says they will file a new writ of habeas corpus in the Western District Court of Appeals.

A Cole County judge has denied Ryan Ferguson's petition for a new trial.

Ferguson was arrested in March of 2004 for the murder of Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heinholt, who was killed in the early morning hours of November 1, 2001.
