During the autumn months in Mid-Missouri, believe it or not, there are many families that don't have enough food to feed their entire family.
One Girl Scout troop in Jefferson City offered a helping hand today.
Girls Scout Troop 741 held their 'Trick or Treat for Cans' food drive Saturday in Jefferson City.
Earlier in the week, the troop went door-to-door with fliers, asking for food items that could be given to the Samaritan Center.
On Saturday, the girls went around and pick up those food items and dropped them off at the Samaritan Center.
Girl Scout officials say 'Trick or Treat for Cans' is directly in-line with their organization's mission.
"One of the main goal in girl scouts is helping out, helping the community, helping others,” said troop organizer Kimberly Bruce. “So the girls learn very yearly on that all the food goes to families that are in need, and that they can be a part of that community change."
The troop also had Girl Scouts collect food at the Gerbes supermarket on the west side of Jefferson City.
They were hoping to collect four thousand pounds of food during this year's food drive.
