A man hit a woman in the head several times before grabbing her around the neck and holding her head over an open flame on the kitchen stove.

Pulaski County deputies responded to the assault at 21474 Highway Y in St. Robert just after midnight Wednesday.

The woman's 16-year-old daughter told authorities she attacked the man to defend her mother. The two were able to pin the man, identified as 44-year-old Kenneth Bell of St. Robert, on the floor until deputies arrived.

Authorities discovered Bell had an active felony warrant for unlawful use of a weapon. He was taken to the Pulaski County Jail, and is being held there pending the posting of a $25,000 bond.

A decision about charges for Wednesday's assault has not yet been made by the county prosecutor.
