A man wanted for murder was arrested after a short standoff with Columbia police and SWAT.

Authorities went to 1406 Risen Star Court at 8:40 Friday morning when they learned 20-year-old Larry Belk was there. Belk is wanted in Alton, Ill., for first degree murder.

When police confirmed Belk's presence at the residence, they called in the SWAT team at 11:30 a.m. When SWAT arrived an hour later, the adjoining duplexes were checked. One was already empty, while the others were evacuated.

Columbia Public Schools were alerted to the situation because of Derby Ridge Elementary's close location. The school was placed on lockdown, and authorities confirmed that the children who lived in the duplex were at school.

As an added precaution, there were medics on standby.

SWAT officers spoke with a woman in a parked car at the duplex. They then used a bullhorn to speak to Belk and another woman, 21-year-old Porcha Marshall.

Belk came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incidence about eight minutes later. He was arrested for a first degree murder felony warrant, while Marshall was arrested on a local misdemeanor warrant for driving without a license. Belk's bond is $1 million, while Marshall's is a $750 cash-only bond.
