COLE COUNTY -- Most people know the dangers of abusing prescription medication, but sometimes they don't realize those dangers can lurk right inside their home posing a risk to their kids.
The Cole County sheriff, EMS, and the drug enforcement administration teamed up today to hold a collection drive for people who have leftover prescription medication.
Officials say there's a great chance that a child could
unknowingly
take a prescription medication.
"There's a lot of potential all the time. Drug problem with young people is always a concern,” said Cole County Paramedic Aaron Steenbrugen."
Last year, Americans turned in 276 tons of unused medication.
Today in Cole County they collected 36 pounds.
