MOBERLY, MO. -- A man, reported trying to steal a battery from a car in a private lot, tried to hide from Moberly police when they arrived on the scene.

Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Johnson Street just after 1 a.m. Thursday. They arrested 52-year-old Anthony Sesto of Independence for parole violation , tampering with a motor vehicle. Sesto is also an out-of-state fugitive, due to a Johnson County, Kansas, warrant for larceny, with a cash-only bond of $25,000.

Upon inspection of the parking lot, authorities found a car's window and steering column broken. Another vehicle's window was also broken and its battery missing. The battery was recovered on the lot.

Sesto was unable to post bond and transferred to the Randolph County Justice Center.
