Columbia city council members are expected to approve their budget for next year during their meeting tonight.

City leaders said the $409 million proposed budget focuses on the priorities of their community while facing lean financial times.

The budget calls for no new taxes, higher utility rates and more police and firefighters.

One of the more controversial proposals calls for a pilot project that replaces city trash bags with roll bins.

Columbia city leaders held a series of public hearings on their budget before making any final decisions.
