Members of Columbia’s Downtown Parking Task Force want to install more than 100 new parking meters that accept credit cards and smart phone payments.

Task force members are suggesting that city leaders approve the high-tech meters for sections of Ninth Street and Broadway in Downtown Columbia.

Columbia taxpayers would pay for the $56,000 project from the city’s maintenance budget.

Task force members said a recent trial run for the credit card meters on Ninth Street was successful.

The project needs city council approval.
