The Samaritan Center in Jefferson City is celebrating 25 years of service.

To say thanks to nearly 300 volunteers, the center this evening organized a dinner at Capital West Christian Church events center.

More than a dozen area businesses donated money to pay for the dinner.

Organizers say it's a great way to thank so many people who are helping others.

Volunteer, Marylyn Defeo said "We could not afford to pay people the many hours they put in. I just tallied out about 17,000 hours from the first of the year to the end of August that people have put in."

None of the money from the center was used to pay for the event.
