(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill is trumpeting endorsements from firefighters and police groups in her re-election campaign.
The Democratic senator says the Missouri chapters of the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Fraternal Order of Police both have endorsed her. She is being challenged in the November election by Republican Congressman Todd Akin.
McCaskill touted the endorsements Wednesday -- a day after the Missouri Farm Bureau reaffirmed its endorsement of Akin. The Farm Bureau's political committees had originally endorsed Akin in August but held a second vote after Akin made comments about rape and pregnancy for which he has since apologized.
McCaskill is a former state auditor, lawmaker and Jackson County prosecutor.
