Columbia Police need your help in solving six home invasion cases during the past month.
The last one happened around noon on Monday at a college student’s apartment in the 3500 block of Marquis Court.
MU Junior Jacob Campbell lives near the scene of Columbia’s last home invasion and has noticed some other suspicious activity in his neighborhood. Campbell is taking extra precautions so he doesn’t become a victim.
Campbell said, “I do leave lights on. I always check all of my doors. I do keep a baseball bat by my bed in case anything immediately happens to me.”
Investigators said all of the recent Columbia home invasions were caused by forced entry where the suspects kicked open doors.
Columbia Police are very frustrated because they responded to six home invasions since August 3. They are even more frustrated over the fact that they’ve made no arrests and have very few leads.
The only suspect description at this time is four black males. Three of the six home invasions happened in the northeast part of the city. The other three happened on the city’s south side. The first four cases involved couples or families. College students were the victims during the last two home invasions.
Columbia Police Officer Latisha Stroer said, “We’re trying to find out what are the reasons behind the home invasions. We’re talking to neighbors and trying to figure out if there is any extra activity in those neighborhoods and around those apartments during certain times of the day.”
Witnesses said the home invasion suspects carry a handgun and take money and valuable items.
