A new law started today that makes you move over for MoDOT.

The 2002 Move Over Law is no longer just for parked law enforcement vehicles.

You can now get a ticket if you don’t move over for parked MoDOT vehicles with flashing amber and white lights.

MoDOT officials said the expanded Move Over Law improves safety for all people driving and working on the highway.

Central Missouri Assistant District Engineer Travis Koestner said, “We may be working on the road with the white or amber lights.  That’s when we ask people to move over and give our workers some room.  MoDOT workers also respond to emergencies in coordination with local law enforcement and the highway patrol.  You may, on occasion, see red lights with those white or amber lights whenever we are helping out with traffic control and emergency response.”

Over the next few weeks, people driving on Missouri’s major highways will notice new signs reminding drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching MoDOT vehicles.
