911 operators want to remind people in Boone County of a free service designed to improve emergency response.

Emergency Management officials want Boone County residents to register their phone numbers with the SMART 911 service.

The free service allows you to make a safety profile for 911 operators.

Profiles include information such as medical conditions, medications, disabilities and other rescue-related information.

Operations Manager Brian Maydwell said, “If you have a cell phone, and that’s the only thing that you have, instead of having a land line phone that would provide your address, you can actually plug in your address on your cell phone.  It could be your home address, your work address or the normal address where you are actually located at.”

Information is kept completely private and secure and only viewable by emergency personnel when the registered user calls 911.
