Update, Friday, Aug. 10 at 11:30 a.m.:

Jefferson City Fire Department spokesman Jason Turner says the source of the fire hasn't been determined but authorities have ruled out anything suspicious.

He says insurance adjusters are estimating damage to the facility at somewhere between $2 million and $2.5 million.

No one was injured.

Update: Thursday, Aug. 9 at 8:28 p.m.:

Five companies from across Jefferson City are responding to the PMI fire. A Cole County crew is there as well for mutual aid since so many fire fighters are working this one fire.

Fire Department spokesman Jason Turner said the retail area has suffered quite a bit of damage, and the fire is starting to move to the back area of the building where machines are stored.

Fire fighters are facing some concerns and challenges because of oxygen and propane tanks stored in the machine area, as well as a highly-flammable liquid used for torches and welding.

The owner of PMI left the business at about 6:15 Thursday night. About 20 minutes later an alarm went off. Jefferson City Police initially responded to the alarm. When they arrived and saw the fire, officers called in fire crews.

PMI employs about seven people.

Original story:

The Jefferson City Fire Department has confirmed it is working a fire at Precision Machine Inc. The business is located at 1703 Christy Drive.

Smoke has been seen spilling out of the building.  At this time it appears most of the damage is on the inside of the building.

Several JCFD trucks are at the scene as crews continue to battle the fire.
