A Columbia family is homeless after a fire destroyed their house about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters saw heavy fire in the northeast corner of the home at 704 McBaine Avenue.

Crews performed an interior attack, quickly brought the flames under control and extinguished the fire.

The renters of the home said the cause of the fire was faulty electrical wiring.

Fire investigators have not released an official cause and estimate the damage at about $50,000.

No one was hurt.
