(AP) -- ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis-area residents are being warned to keep an eye out for two men posing as inspectors for Missouri American Water Company who have been stealing things from people's homes.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the men have talked their way into homes in the past week by telling residents they have to turn their water off for tests.

Police in say that once inside, the men have stolen items when the occupants weren't looking. Police departments in Ladue, Creve Coeur, Sunset Hills and Brentwood urge residents to call if they encounter anyone making similar requests.
