Two valves on 4 inch water mains on East Broadway and Walnut are being repaired this afternoon, and the Ashland Public Works Department has issued a precautionary water boil advisory for customers living on Oak Street, Walnut Street, East Johnson Avenue, Tandy Street, Johnson Court, and part of East Broadway as of 3 p.m. on July 30. Crews ar e working to repair the valves and water service should be restored soon.

When service is restored residents of those streets are urged to take the following precautions: boil water for three minutes prior to using it for cooking or drinking; do not use ice from an automatic ice make r; and disinfect dishes and food c ontact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that cont ains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.

The Public Works Department must have two clean samples before lifting the water boil advisory and that can take a minimum of 48 hours. Customers will be notified with hang tags on their doors when the boil advisory has been lifted.
