A former Jefferson City police officer charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident has made a plea deal.

Rachel Barnard plead guilty today to charges stemming from an October 2011 incident.

A witness reported seeing her hit a vehicle in the 1600 block of Tanner Bridge Road and then drive off on October 24, 2011.

She plead today to a charge of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene and careless and imprudent driving. She received $850 in fines and 50 hours of community service She is no longer with the department.

Her lawyer, Bogdan Susan, made a statement Thursday: "Police officers are held to a high standard; however, they are human beings like the rest of us. Rachel deeply regrets this incident and is very remorseful of her actions and today she accepted full responsibility."
