Crews respond to plane crash in Randolph County

RANDOLPH COUNTY, MO -- Update: Friday, July 13th at 5:37 p.m.:

The crop duster went down in a corn field near County Road 1170, which is about eight miles north of Huntsville.

Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols said the bi-plane crashed at about 11:30 Friday morning after it clipped a tree.

"From the road you could see the tail of the plane and smoke coming from the plane,” Sheriff Nichols described. “It's approximately 200 yards off of the road. When we went down there the plane still was on fire. It was extinguished by the fire department and then the body was removed."

Officials aren’t releasing the man’s name while authorities work to notify his family.

The man who died did not own the land he was spraying. Officials said the owners contracted him to do the work.

Update: Friday, July 13th at 2:15 p.m.:

The Randolph County Sheriff has confirmed one man is dead after a crop duster plane crashed north of Huntsville.

Sheriff Mark Nichols said the crash happened around 11:30 Friday morning when the bi-plane clipped a tree and went down. The FAA is on their way to the scene to investigate.

The man's name has not been released pending notification of family.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is responding to a plane crash north of Huntsville.

The small plane crashed in a field close to County Road 1160.

An official with Highway Patrol Troop B said they aren’t releasing too many details to the public at this time.
